Once again, the plot is propelled by the extended family led by Manny, the lovably neurotic woolly mammoth, who looms large in an Ice Age environment that, in this latest adventure, appears to have recovered nicely from the "Meltdown" of the previous film.

“Up” weaves three story lines together, each a reflection on loss and gain. At the heart of the film is Carl Fredericksen (voice of Ed Asner), a grumpy 78-year-old balloon salesman who keenly feels the absence of his beloved wife and soul mate, Ellie.
