Pattaya City Receives Nearly 1,365 Million Baht to Expand Transportation System

The government annouced in November that it will spend nearly 1,365 million baht in improvements to the transportation system in Pattaya and the surrounding area. UTapao Airport will be expanded to accommodate more charter flights and parking for planes. Additionally, the boat parking areas will be extended around Bali Hai Pier.

Rear Admiral Surapong Aisayanont, U-Tapao Assistant Director, and his crews met with Pattaya City Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome on September 3 at the Pattaya City Hall, to discuss U-Tapao scenery development as well as the upgrading of U-Tapao as a commercial airport.

Legal businesses suffer from airport mafias

Illegal taxi operators and tour guides continue to operate openly at Suvarnabhumi airport despite the government's recently announced campaign to keep Thailand's major international airport clear of thugs and cheats. Recent bad press overseas from cheats at the airport in the shops and involved in transportation has plagued the licensed airport vendors. The vendors who are properly licensed and operate in a fair manner cannot clear the bad reputation Thailand is getting unless the "airport mafia" is disbanded.

Suvarnabhumi Airport Link sets soft launch for December 5

The long-delayed Airport Rail Link project, providing direct rail service in Bangkok to and from Suvarnabhumi Airport, will start providing free service to the public from this December 5 which coincides with the birthday celebrations of His Majesty the King, said State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Governor Yuthana Tupcharoen.

Faced by a number of negative reports appearing in international media about malpractice problems and scams taking place at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi international airport, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Saturday ordered airport officials to resolve the problems and restore confidence among foreign tourists.

Bangkok Airways crash

A Bangkok Airways plane skidded off the Koh Samui Airport’s runway and crashed on the afternoon of August 4, killing a pilot and leaving 14 passengers injured. Koh Samui airport was closed after the accident, but has since reopened.
