The “Pattaya Be Our Guest” tourism stimulus program gets underway to counter declines in tourists arrivals in Pattaya following exaggerated and misleading local and international press reports of the H1N1 virus. Now that Pattaya has been declared safe as any other resort city in the world the local government and hoteliers want to encourage a revival in tourism.

The virus, Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease has been diagnosed in several clinics and hospitals in Pattaya with the largest outbreak occurring in Naklua.

In an attempt to eradicate the fast-spreading mosquito-borne Chikungunya virus, which has ravaged southern provinces from spreading to other parts of Thailand, the Public Health Ministry has established ‘war rooms’ at the Disease Control Department in Bangkok and in the southern province of Trang to end the disease within three months, Health Minister Witthaya Kaewparadai said.
