Pattaya Times Editor’s Note: Many embassies in Bangkok are sending this type of message as the US notice below to citizens from those countries who are known to live in Thailand. It is very important to register with your own embassy so you can receive email updates and any warnings as natural disasters or political turmoil develop in Thailand. It is widely reported that the "Bangkok Airport is flooded and closed" in the international media. This applies only to the old Don Muang airport which operates some domestic flights and cargo flights. However, at the time of this writing, the Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand's main international airport and a critical ASEAN hub for connecting flights is operating on schedule with no delays, cancellations or flood-related problems except a shortage of taxis.

Government Decides to use both Airports

The government has decided to use both Don Muang and Suvarnabhumi Airports, announced Finance Minister Korn Chatikavanij.

Faced by a number of negative reports appearing in international media about malpractice problems and scams taking place at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi international airport, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Saturday ordered airport officials to resolve the problems and restore confidence among foreign tourists.

Reports in the international press and on official international government website have resulted in a concentrated crackdown on unlicensed taxis and tour guides, baggage theft and duty free shop scams at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
