Samui tourism banking on distinguished events

Surat Thani, Thailand — Samui’s tourism industry is relying on several distinguished events to keep it afloat during the period of recession. According to Head of the Eastern South Thai Hotel Association Reugnam Jaikwang, one of these events was the visit of the 44 contestants to Miss Thailand Universe beauty pageant last March 21- 25. Mr. Jaikwang said that after the beauties’ visit, Samui would be holding the Coconut Festival on May 17-31 and then the Samui International Regatta on June 1-6.

Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome recently expressed his strong support for the 17 Tourism Business Boosting Measures. This measure is issued by the tourism business sector, in order to deal with the current crisis of financial and political.

The government will approve 15 billion Baht in loans available to the tourism sector, Deputy Prime Minister overseeing economic affairs Kobsak Sabhavasu said on Monday. The announcement follows last week’s decision by the cabinet to put tourism promotion at the top of the national agenda.
