The new Pattaya Hospital is now one-third completed and will be fully operational by May or June of next year.

The world’s longest-serving monarch, HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej,of Thailand, was admitted to the hospital for a lung infection, fever, fatigue and loss of appetite on September 19.

Derek McCarick, from England, has been living in Naklua, Pattaya, Thailand for over eight years. He was a taxi driver in London before he retired. Derek, 73, of Minister Isle of Sheppy, has raised almost 200,000 pounds for Leukemia research.

The Pattaya Disabled Association presented a petition to the Parliament Chairman requesting that they be part of the decision making process for the construction of the new Parliament House. The Pattaya’s Maha Tai Foundation management recently conducted a training course for its officials and other relevant social and child organizations. The course’s purpose was to provide psychological counseling information to social and child related organizations’ management and officials so they can better provide consulting services to adults and children who have been mentally abused. The aim was to assist troubled adults and children to once again return to society and live happily, as well as, helping them protect themselves from the types of abuse they have suffered in the past.

Pattaya’s Bangkok Hospital recently conducted a ‘First Aid Training Course’ for the Sawang Boriboon Foundation’s rescuers, aimed at imparting first aid knowledge and skills at international standards. The training was divided into eight classes, attended by more than five hundred rescuers.

Mr. Lauren Legrauel, Managing Director of the Hard Rock Cafe, Mr. Wirawat Khakhai, Deputy Mayor of Pattaya, and Dr. Pichit Gungwonjit, Director of The Bangkok Hospital Pattaya jointly opened the Pinktober at the Hard Rock Hotel, Pattaya.

The event was held at the famous Hard Rock Café and was attended by guests in pink colored clothes who generously bought signature breast cancer key chains, while quenching their thirst with the Pinktober cocktail and ‘mocktails.’ For each drink sold, fifty baht was donated to the ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Foundation.’ Limited edition Pinktober paraphernalia, such as t-shirts and pins, were also popular. Fifteen percent of the proceeds from the sales of these items went to breast cancer awareness.

14% Drop in Tourist Arrivals

During the past eight months, the numbers of foreign tourists visiting Thailand has decreased by a whopping 14.1% to only 8.9 million. According to Mr. Atthawit Suwanphakdee, deputy spokesman for the Democratic Party, the drop in tourism is a result of the riots by the “red shirt” protestors during Songkran, as well as, the H1N1 flu virus.
