Mr. Sontaya Khunpleum newly appointed Minister of Culture

The newly appointed Culture Minister, Mr. Sontaya Khunpleum, is ready to continue the ministry’s traditional policy while emphasizing the overall management of cultural tourism and adding value to the country’s economy.
Mr. Khunpleum, who previously held the post of Minister of
Tourism and Sports under the first Taksin Shinawatra government, stated that he
is ready to accept his new appointment replacing the outgoing minister, Mrs.
Sukamol Khunpleum. Mr. Khunpleum stated he has the opportunity to learn from
and be mentored by Mrs. Sukamol. His aim will be to continue the same policy
objectives as in the past, in particular the build-up of Thailand’s cultural
heritage and awareness. He will set about to continue the emphasis on the
tourist culture, to promote the use of local cultural products, and to generate
revenue for the country in accordance with government policy. The aim will be to
generate revenue from tourism exceeding two billion Baht within the three
years. The Ministry of Culture, we are reminded, also has the responsibility
for the care and maintenance of cultural and historical places throughout the
Kingdom.
