The opposition leader, leader of the Democrat Party and former Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva recently visited Pattaya where he chaired a meeting regarding the Democrat Party in the Eastern Region. He stated that the party will need to work harder if they want to be back in government.

A lecture was held with the theme “Design Thailand to a New Democratic Step”. This was the first meeting ever held of the Democrat Party in the Eastern Region attended by representatives from each region. The meeting was held to prepare for the next general election.

Mr. Abhisit said, “The aim of the Democrat Party continues to focus on the local citizens; therefore, it is important for representatives of each region to pay attention to their own people. They need to listen to complaints, identify the problem and find possible solutions. In the past, people in this region only knew the Democrat Party through the media (television) and the party’s representative only come out to campaign before each election. This caused people to not fully believe in our commitment. For this reason, we will organize activities as well as meet and closely listen to the citizens.”

“The party committee will focus 10 foundational points: four community foundations, three economic foundations and two political foundations with the aim of bringing Thailand to the one ASEAN foundation,” he added.

Procedures will be given out to each representative on how to establish a close partnership with the local people, to get to know them, understand them and help them so they can come to understand the commitment of the Democrat Party.
