Thais and Foreigners Celebrate Visakha Bucha Day
The merit-making ceremony included activities where rice and dry food were offered to monks at various temples. The evening celebration included Wien Tien when people circumnavigate a temple with lighted candles in hand.
Apart from the merit-making activities, there was also a morning Walk-Run Marathon. The marathon kicked off in front of the Tourism Authority of Thailand Pattaya Office (TAT), with the route progressing to Pratamnak Hill and returning to the TAT office. The marathon consisted of a 5-kilometer run and a 3-kilometer walk which was attended by hundreds of locals and foreigners of all ages, and even dogs!
This year’s Visakha Bucha Day is particularly special, as the day is also the 2,600th anniversary of the Buddha’s Enlightenment.

Visakha Bucha Day marks the three most important events in the life of the Lord Buddha, which all occurred on the same date: his birth, his enlightenment, and his attainment of nirvana.
Thais and foreigners were seen celebrating the 2,600th anniversary of the Lord Buddha’s enlightenment and the birth of Buddhism on Visakha Bucha Day.
