Drew Noyes introduced his close friend and a Pattaya legend Captain Pipe, a former Royal Palace Guard, who had received one of the first allotments of the King's new Royal Emblem pins which are worn proudly on the top left of the pocket of a shirt. Pattaya City Expat Club attendees were shown the new design and allowed to purchase the new exclusive pins.
The Thai government encourages state, business offices and households to display the new Royal Insignia at their offices and homes to honor His Majesty the King on this auspicious occasion. A new Royal Emblem pin was made to honor the King by those wearing it proudly on their chest.
The winning Royal Insignia was created by Siri Noodaeng, a teacher at Rattanakosin Rajamangala University (also known as the Poh Chang institute) to mark the 84th birthday anniversary of His Majesty the King and will be on display at a special exhibition until December 31, held at the National Gallery on Chao Fah Road.
The winning design was among three designs that were narrowed down by the judging committee and presented to His Majesty for consideration. HM the King picked Siri's design, and it will become the official Royal Insignia for this year's celebrations. The other two designs were created by Charoen Maboot and Tawee Srimai. The contest drew 112 entries.
Drew Noyes and Captain Pipe offered the Pattaya City Expat Club attendees the new royal insignia pin bearing the King's new official Royal Emblem at the Amari Resort's Tavern By the Sea. The winning design was selected just days before by His Majesty the King in a contest of Thai artists and designers. The new Royal Emblem pins honoring his Majesty the King are available exclusively in Pattaya by contacting Drew Noyes at PAPPA Co., Ltd. Law Office at 448/21 Thepprasit Road, Ground Floor, Keha Tower 1 or emailing Drew@PattayaLawyers.com.
The winning design is predominantly blue and gold and features images of the Royal Regalia, like the Maha Pichai crown, two seven-tiered white umbrellas of state, as well as an elaborately costumed rabbit, which symbolizes His Majesty's birth in the Year of the Rabbit which is also this year. As each cycle of life in Chinese philospohy is 12 years, the animal for each year is the same each cycle year. His Majesty was born seven cycles ago in the Year of the Rabbit and now the cycle has completed for the seventh time and it is again the Year of the Rabbit.
His Majesty's royal initials are in gold at the centre of the new emblem. Above the royal initials is the number 9 in traditional Thai numerical form, which represents the reign of the "Ninth King" of the Chakra Dynasty. Nine is also considered the lucky number in Thai culture as 7 is the predominant lucky number in Western culture.
The colours were carefully chosen in designing the Royal Insignia. They are gold for wealth, yellow, the color that's associated with Monday, the day His Majesty was born and green, the colour that's believed to give power to Monday. Green also signifies wealth, abundance, and peace, while the blue background for the rabbit signifies prosperity under His Majesty's rule. At the bottom of the design in gold is a phrase that reads: The Royal Ceremony to Mark the Seventh Cycle, December 5, 2011.
