Dining at the Ritz Cafe - Pattaya Times News

If you are looking for quality British food at sensible prices, then look no further than this establishment.

John Rumbelow trained his wife in the way to cook this food, and the results are excellent.

I have lost count of the times I have been here with both friends and family and I have never had a bad meal (except for the time when the pate accidentally got a double dose of Black Pepper: but I was offered something else in its place).

The menu is quite large but the thing to go for is the set menu at 355 baht and the portions are generous, unlike some set menus.

This gives you a choice of soup or entree, main meal and dessert.

For myself, I leave out the dessert and go for a soup and an entree plus the main dish, knowing from experience what I like.

OK, so what is offered:

The choice of soup varies slightly but we had the choice of Tomato, Pumpkin or Minestrone: and I normally go for Pumpkin soup.

For entrees you have Prawn Cocktail, Egg Mayonnaise,

BBQ Pork Ribs, Chicken Liver Pate(my favourite), Tomato Salad, Mixed Vegetables, Spaghetti Bolognaise and Smoked Salmon(this has a 50 baht surcharge).

When it comes to the main course you are so spoilt for choice, that it is quite difficult at times to choose what you would like.

So, I have put a star(*) against every item that I have eaten to give you some idea of how good things were.

We start with Roast Pork*, Roast Leg of Lamb*, Roast Chicken, Or a mixture of all three, Liver and Onions*, Liver and Bacon*, Beef Stew, 2 grilled Pork Chops, Chicken Breast in a White Wine and Cream Sauce, Steak and Kidney Pie*, Steak, Kidney and Mushroom Pie*, Stewing Steak and salads that can be Chicken, Pork, Lamb, Prawns or Eggs.

If fish is your choice, you can go for; Red Snapper on its own or with Prawns both with a White Wine and Cream Sauce, Sole Bonne femme, Sole Provencal, Grilled sole, grilled Salmon Steak, or Salmon Steak in a White Wine and Cream sauce.

The range of desserts is also good, and I have in the past indulged in one or two that I have again starred for you.

Pies come as, Apple and Blueberry Pie,  Apple*, Apple and Rhubarb*.

Crumbles come as Apple, Blueberry, Rhubarb*. Then there is Apple, Jam or Marmalade* Sponge. For Cheesecakes there are Blueberry, Chocolate, Lemon.

All desserts are served with a choice of Cream or Ice cream There is also Sherry Trifle as well as Vanilla or Chocolate Ice Cream.

Wine is available for your meal, plus the usual water, soft drinks, and tea or coffee.

My meal on this visit was Pumpkin Soup, Chicken Liver Pate and steak,Kidney and Mushroom Pie.

The main courses come with a mixture of vegetables and at one time the helpings were enormous, so much so that we told John and his wife that there was just too much and food was being wasted. Now the mixture is still there but the helpings are now sensible in size.

Our other diners had different varieties, but all agreed that the food was excellent.

It is a good idea to book as it does get very busy, so call on;

0879129108 to make that reservation. Enjoy
