Pattaya Mayor Launches Free Bus Service for Pattaya Students
Pattaya Mayor
Itthiphol Kunplome said, "I am aware of the costs that parents have to pay
everyday to transport their children to and from school. The oil price is very
expensive these days so I want to help them ease their expenditures. I believe
the school bus project will help save about a thousand baht or more a month per
family."
"At the moment
there are 16,000 students attending 10 Pattaya City schools. Each year, the
number of attendees is growing by about 1,600 students. The buses will serve
all Pattaya City schools except for the one in Koh Larn. Not only will it save
their parents money but it also offer a safer travel option as some students
travel alone," he added.
"We are
currently renting these buses for the period of five years. The buses use CNG
gas and each bus can hold about 70 passengers. The bus is 12 meters long with
one entrance door and one emergency door. We have already employed 20 bus
drivers and care takers to be on the bus with the students. Each bus is
equipped with a radio which will be used for performance reporting and
emergency notifications," he concluded.
Students can contact
their school administrators about the exact locations about where the bus stops
will be.
