The 2011 LPGA season will again tee off at the Honda tournament in Pattaya. The season-opener Honda LPGA Thailand will take place at Siam Country Club Old Course from February 17-20.

“Fifty players on the 2010 money lists will take part in the annual event which offers a total purse of US$1.5 million”, said Atsushi Fujimoto, president of Honda Automobile (Thailand).

He said the tournament will help promote Thailand as a golfing paradise and a beautiful country.

"The Honda LPGA Thailand tournament will help promote Thailand's natural beauty and smiles and services," Fujimoto said.

"News about this tournament will reach many key markets that Thailand is ready to welcome back its guests from all over the world again."

Surang Prempree, managing director of Channel 7, said the Honda tournament will be more interesting because several players will be vying for the world's top spot.

"The No.1 ranking has changed hands nine times between three players Shin Ji Yai, Cristie Kerr and Ai Miyazato _ since Lorena Ochoa retired earlier this year," said Surang.

"It is expected three other players Suzanne Pettersen, Paula Creamer and Na Yeon Choi will join the chase for the crown in 2011."

She said the tournament, which was launched in 2006, will benefit the country as it will show to the world that Thailand is a good place for tourism and investment.
