A Dream Kitchen
We already had a company in mind as they had made some pieces of furniture for us and we knew the excellence of their work.
Most kitchen companies will plan for you and then provide their “off the shelf” units to fit. In most cases these are MDF with a laminate cover and we had experience of these in the UK; especially how fast the items go out of stock or are superseded and anything damaged cannot be replaced.
Therefore, we went for a teak kitchen designed especially for our area with every item of woodwork being purpose made. When I say teak, all the carcases were solid teak and the doors, side and infill panels were teak veneered plywood.
Having made some rough drawings of what we wanted we went along to Sak (Charoensarp Rattanporndeeraksa) at Siam Wood Design and showed him our ideas.
He came up to the house with his foreman and a couple of workers and looked over the kitchen and utility room measuring up and throwing out his ideas as to what we could do. The result was a very complete set of drawings with a couple of innovations that we had not thought of. (one being a pull out breakfast bar).
At the same time as the kitchen, Sak's men were also staining the doors to all the rooms including the sliding ones for the kitchen and utility room. These last two also involved building frames to the openings and the mechanisms.
Also stairs to our mezzanine floor were installed.
All the fixtures inside the cabinets, door hinges and handles, sliding door gear, etc came from Hafele and we were given the discount that Sak got.
Out appliances came from Boonthavorn as well as our tiling and we were extremely well looked after by a young lady called Arun.
The kitchen was then built on site and this was the only mistake we made: in hindsight we should have stayed in the rented property one more month so that we avoided the dust that got everywhere.
But Sak's men cleared up every day where they were working and we muddled through with the rest: our maid had her hands full with all the dust everywhere and did a Trojan job.
The final stages involved a lot of rubbing down and checking the staining matched before a clear top coat was applied.
Then the granite work tops were fitted and the final plumbing for the two sink units, dishwasher and washing machine finished.
The end result was a kitchen and utility area that was what we wanted, one that our friends have drooled over.
We would wholeheartedly recommend this contractor without reservations at all.
Since our kitchen was finished we have had a couple of minor “hiccups” but Sak and his men were promptly on site and corrected them.
We also used him to make shoe cupboards and display units as well as fitting out the study/library/computer room.
By the way, he was also used by Bruno's for the refit.
