Government and Private Sectors Join Hands to Promote ‘7 Greens’ Tourism
Sixteen governmental and private sector representatives have signed their names in promising that they will help to promote nature-friendly tourism.
Members from the government as well as from the private sectors recently committed themselves to help promote environmentally-friendly tourism under the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT) newest campaign; ‘7 Greens’.
‘7 Greens’ consists of Green Heart, Green Logistics, Green Attraction, Green Community, Green Activity, Green Service and Green Plus.
‘Green Heart’ is about making sure that people respect nature and understand the importance of nature. It also encourages people to educate others about the problems that could arise if we don’t pay attention to this issue.
‘Green Logistics’ influences people to travel in a nature-friendly style such using public transport or traveling with a lot of people in one vehicle.
‘Green Attraction’, just like its name, encourages people to visit natural places like the local zoo or adventure parks that are nature-friendly like the Tree Top Adventure Park at the Horseshoe Point Pattaya.
‘Green Community’ encourages people to think green, pay attention to their surrounding environment and live ‘green’ everyday such as turning off lights and air-conditioners when possible, avoid using plastic bags and to recycle goods.
‘Green Activity’ encourages people to experience enjoyable activities like scuba diving, bike riding and rock climbing.
‘Green Service’ encourages hotels and restaurant owners as well as tourist destination owners to pay attention to their water filter systems and how to dispose of waste and make sure that their operating procedures do not negatively affect the environment.
‘Green Plus’ is about how you give back to nature and the local community. Whether you are a business owner or a tourist, everywhere you go and everything you do be mindful so that your actions dont negatively affect the environment. It is encouraged that we do something to give back such as donating or participating in activities or fund raising events that are involved with conserving nature.
Miss Pensuda Priaram, TAT’s Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business said, “The purpose of the ‘7 Greens’ campaign results from the rapid growth in tourism levels which can severely effect our environment. Each sector has agreed to go back and look at how their business is run and whether is clashes with the environment or not. They have also promised to host more nature-friendly activities. So, it is hoped that in the future we will remain comptetive in the international tourism market in terms of green tourism.”
Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome added, “We have been conducting activities under this campaign for a while now and have been promoting green tourism as much as we can. It is one of our policies to help conserve our environment.A recent major event was the Pattaya Marathon in which one of our goals was to let the runners see our beautiful natural surroundings and beach while they were running.”
