Illegal Immigrant Crackdown Continues
Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, Police General Wutthi Puawed addressing a packed room of police officers from all of the seven departments concerning the continued crackdown of illegal immigrant workers.
The crackdown on foreigners living and working in Pattaya and throughout Thailand is continuing with street beggers and people working in the construction industry being targeted in the current wave of arrests as well as those involved with human trafficking. Deputy Commissioner of the Royal Thai Police, Police General Wutthi Puawed recently held a seminar to instruct police officers to treat illegal immigrant workers who have been arrested fairly.
Pol. Gen. Wutthi said, “When we arrest illegal immigrant workers we should conduct ourselves very professionally and treat the workers just like any other criminals. We should not discriminate against them just because some groups are considered to come from a poorer country.”
Another message that Pol. Gen Wutthi wanted to put across was that, “There are three types of illegal immigrant workers that we must all understand. First there are those that come to Thailand illegally and come here to cause chaos such as stealing. Secondly there are those that come to the country legally and do not stir trouble however work illegally and third are those that enter the country illegally and are involved in human trafficking.”
“We need to understand how they should be arrested, how they should be questioned and how to find those who are involved. We should investigate their employers and the place they are living in,” he added.
“Mostly, we want to put a stop to human trafficking. We need to find the people who are involved and try to track down to the people at the top.”
“No matter what, I want my fellow police officers to always keep this in mind to treat these people fairly.”
