THE PALACE...Lebanese Restaurant
Having eaten these types of foods many times in London, we were only too eager to see what the fare was like here.
They have inside (air conditioned) and outside dining. Anyone who would like to try smoking a hookah at the end of the meal, you sit outside.
To say we were pleasantly surprised would be an understatement.
The manager, Nader and his brother Anwar, the chef, have produced a superb menu covering a wide range of Lebanese dishes. Every item was a delight in itself, from the drinks and the starters to the Turkish coffee at the end.
There were four of us. All ordered the Lemon and Mint drink at 80 baht, served cold and extremely refreshing. Then we chose the mixed cold starter to kick off with, and four pieces of Arabic bread. This is a generous platter for four or six people comprising Hummous, Babaganouge, Muhammara, Tabbouleh and Fattoush plus garnishes. What are they? Well, let me tell you.
Hummous: Chickpea and sesame seed paste with lemon, garlic, parsley, olive and pomegranate syrup.
Babanagouge: Paste of grilled eggplant, tomato, leek, green capsicum, lemon, garlic, olive oil, pomegranate syrup and walnuts.
Muhammara: Fine soft bread, tomato paste, spices, onion and olive oil.
Tabbouleh: Salad of parsley, tomato, leek, onion, cracked wheat lemon and olive oil.
Fattoush: Salad of lettuce, tomato, leek, mint, radish, cucumber, green capsicum, pieces of fried bread, lemon and olive oil.
At the same time a small plate of salad comprising Chinese leaf, lettuce, carrot, spring onion, tomato and cucumber is served.
You can order any of these as a starter on its own.
We ordered both drinks and starter first and when this arrived we ordered the main courses so as to leisurely enjoy the starter.
Kebabs were the order of the day for the main course and we ordered two of both Lamb and Chicken, cooked as follows:
Boneless lamb (Tikka), at 275 baht.
Boneless charcoal grilled lamb served with grilled tomato, onion, bread and French fries.
Shish Tawook, at 185 baht.
Charcoal grilled cubes of boneless chicken marinated in oil, garlic, ginger and lemon, served with French fries.
Both of these dishes are an epicurean delight and I can imagine that every other item on their menu is of the same quality.
At the end of the meal we were presented with cold towels and a fruit platter of watermelon and pineapple plus small cups of a very refreshing tea (made with tea, obviously, plus cardomon, mint and sugar), refilled again and again. To round it off cups of sweet Turkish coffee were ordered; love it or hate it, it was excellent
Your total cost will include the tax and a service charge and this is one of those restaurants where you do not object to the service charge being added automatically, as the staff are really on the ball.
They are attentive without being obtrusive, pleasant natured and only too happy to oblige any request.
Definitely a restaurant to put on your favorites list
