Locals and Tourists Gather to ‘Say No to Violence Against Women’
HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha arrives to support the Pattaya event held to bring attention to the plight of women and children who are victims of violence and is welcomed by Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome.
For the first time ever a parade was held on Pattaya Beach Road to support Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha ‘Say No to Violence Against Women’ Campaign which was organized by the Department of Peoples’ Rights Protection and Legal Aid Pattaya Office together with Pattaya City. The day was filled with students who came dressed up in Thai costumes holding up signs to promote the campaign. There were also other locals and tourists who came to join in on the event.
The parade started at North Pattaya and went all the way to the front of Central Festival Pattaya Beach and received international media coverage. Apart from the parade, the day was also filled with fun and educational activities. Those who missed out on the parade can look forward to an exhibition of the campaign soon to be held at Queen Sirikit Convention Center.
‘Say No to Violence Against Women’ is a global call for action, launched in November 2009, to end violence against women and girls. It is presented by UNIFEM as a contribution to advance the objectives of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s campaign UNiTE to End Violence against Women through social mobilization. UNIFEM Goodwill Ambassador of Thailand is Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha.
Over 100,000 activities have been held to inform Thais and foreigners and ‘Say No to Violence Against Women’.
