Pattaya Floating Market recently held a ‘Turn Back Time’ exhibition, to showcase the lives of the Thai people back in pre Second World War days. There are displays of houses made from sand and mud, an old-style traditional Thai market, survival tools and a flower exhibition.

CEO of Floating Market Manut Meephong said, “The reason we decided to host this exhibition is because we want to conserve the very unique Thai tradition and this knowledge should be passed on from generation to generation. Foreigners have been given  the opportunity to witness the beauty of our culture and way of life as well. This event we hope will help boost local tourism. One of the highlights was the flower exhibition in which we brought flowers from all over Thailand although the majority came from the Eastern region. Some of the flowers are very rare and some cost over 100,000 baht."

There was also a Poi Sian flower competition as well as other one-of-a-kind contests.

Among the favorites at the exhibition were houses made from sand. The food vendors got into the spirit of the exhibition and dressed in clothes that were worn around the late 1930s and early 1940s.

“Many Thai homes were made from natural resources and proved to be very cheap and convenient,” said Mr. Manut.
