Education Ministry to Upgrade Curriculum for Preschool
The Ministry of Education has pledged to forge ahead with the improvement of curriculum for elementary school, especially in primary grades 1 to 3, due to the shortcomings of literacy found in some students due to the low reading levels of some students.
Recently it was reported that many primary students in grades 1 to 3 could not read and write Thai language correctly.
Education Minister Chinnaworn Boonyakiat stated that the courses, procedures and educational assessments of those students studying in grade 1 to 3 must be improved, so that the problem could be eradicated, and it will help create more discipline among Thai youth.
Mr. Chinnaworn admitted that the current basic curriculum for primary students only focused on academic lessons but failed to provide adequate chances to practice their skills. He therefore viewed that teaching and schooling should emphasize more on discipline and responsibility enhancements.
The minister promised that he would follow up and report on the progress of the issue accordingly.
