Expo Attempts to Boost Thailand-China Trade

Senior Commerce Ministry officials and logistics operators are participating in the Thailand Trade Expo 2010, which has joined the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China in an attempt to boost Thailand’s exports and services to that country.



The officials were led by Deputy Commerce Minister Alongkorn Ponlaboot and remained in Shanghai for four days.

The Thai goods displayed at the Thailand Trade Expo 2010 included jasmine rice, fruits, juices, and snacks.

The Commerce Ministry claim projected sales of Thai goods at World Expo will total about Bt20 million while total sales for the year would be around Bt200 million.

Thailand Trade Expo 2010, which started in May, will run until October, and features approximately 150 Thai business operators.

Thailand and China will celebrate the 35th anniversary of trade and investment cooperation on July 1.

During the visit, Thai delegates met with senior officials of the Shanghai Lingang Logistics Park and the Yangshan Deepwater Port to discuss ways of increasing trade between Thailand and Shanghai.

The SEC will supervise foreign companies with the same standards and measures applied to Thai firms.

According to the secretary-general the SEC will ease some rules for foreign companies so as to be practical and suitable for them.

Foreign firms will be allowed to apply international accounting standards and file an English application form for SEC approval of the initial public offering.
