Pattaya Prepares Early for Mother’s Day Celebrations
This concept drawings give a good idea of the spectacular plans in place to celebrates a Majesty Queen Sirikit's 78th Birthday in Pattaya.
Although it doesn’t happen until August 12, the Pattaya City administration and the Ministry of Defense have already joined forces to prepare for Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s 78th birthday celebrations. The day is considered to be Mother’s Day in Thailand as Her Majesty is seen to be the mother of the people and the mother of the country.
Plans are under way to make the candle-lighting ceremony and firework displays more special this year. Mother’s Day falls on a Thursday so the official celebration will take place on Saturday August 14.
Lieutenant-General ML Prasopchai Kasaemsun, the chairman of event said, "The Mother’s Day celebration is going to be held on Pattaya Beach Road on Soi 4 from 2:00 p.m. onwards. The celebration will consist of various performances as well as a firework display competition featuring contestants from China, Japan, Denmark, Germany, the United States, United Arab Emirates, Australia, Italy and Thailand. This will be the biggest Mother’s Day celebration ever held in Pattaya. There will be over 100,000 fireworks shot into the sky while music is playing in the background. Spectators will be able to witness the amazing display of fireworks from miles away."
"The reason we wanted to plan far ahead is because we want to be sure about safety and the location. Each firework has a diameter of 12 inches which will spread at least one kilometer when shot into the sky. They will be launched from the sea so we have to make sure there are no boats in the area and traffic is well taken care of," added Lieutenant-General ML Prasopchai.
Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome said, "Even though the ceremony is still some time away we want to be prepared as much as possible. Safety is the main issue because these fireworks shoot out very far. There is a lot of research that needs to be done because the sea, where the fireworks will be shot from, is surrounded by tall buildings. We have to make sure fireworks will not land in those areas. We have to also study whether the force will affect the windows in the surrounding area or not. Sea levels must also be taken into consideration to determine the height the fireworks will reach."
