The recently-opened Hajime Robot Restaurant in Bangkok has become a hit with the young generation due to its unique dancing robot waiters, dressed in samurai costume.

There are real humans at reception who show customers to their tables, while the robots are the waiters. Customers place orders via a touch screen and the samurai-attired robot brings the food.

"The kids saw it on TV and told me they wanted to come," said one Thai parent.

Not everything in the restaurant is fully automated.

"For the drinks, it's self-service because it's hard for the robot to serve beverages," said Mr. Wutthiphum Jurangkool, Hajime's restaurant manager.

"Workers in the kitchen need to stack the right dishes in the right slot for the single armed robot to retrieve," Mr. Wutthiphum added.

One diner stated, "It's just different. However, I’d prefer human waiters because they can interact with you."

Aside from the food, diners have another treat in store, once every hour the ‘robo-waiters’ will turn up the volume and dance to entertain diners.
