Pattaya to Move Towards Green Energy
Pattaya City, in association with the Provincial Electricity Authority and Naresuan University, are continuing the study to produce electricity from waste using three technologies.
Biotechnology for waste using anaerobic digestion
Incineration in which the heat will be used to produce electricity
Burying the waste until methane gas is produced which is collected and used to make electricity. This process is known as a ‘Sanitary Landfill Gas Plant’.Professor Doctor Donladech Tungtakarnpong, Director of Environment of Naresuan University and representatives from the Provincial Electricity Authority said, "Due to the fact that Pattaya has a lot of residents and the amount of waste is growing day by day, at the moment we are burying waste underground but we are running out of space to do so which is also effecting our natural environment."
"The best solution is to use this waste and turn it into reusable energy. We are studying the possibility of the three technologies in depth in terms of the amount of waster required and what kind of waste is best suited. We will also be looking at the best location to conduct the process. We are also looking into the budget required, the income expected to be gained from the process and what affects the process will have on the environment. Once we have these findings available we will seek local opinion and finalize our plans. We expect to complete this by September this year," added Professor Doctor Donladech.
