Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome officiated at a ceremony to launch a number of new security measures recently installed along Pattaya Beach Road and at Dongtan Beach in Jomtien.

A total of 38 new poles, housing 9,000 watt lights, as well as 24 extra security cameras were unveiled along Beach Road and Dongtan Beach in early June.

The mayor said, "Ever since 2008 we have been doing everything to improve security in the city. We’ve put aside a budget of 56 million baht for the project and the CCTVs and these lights are just some the things we’ve done. Pattaya City is filled with businesses, some that operate during the day, some at night and some 24 hours a day. This is why we want to do our best to make sure business owners, locals and tourists feel safe staying in Pattaya."

There are also six new security stations, four on Pattaya Beach and two at Dongtan.

By next year, Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol has plans to improve sea rescue by installing cameras which can monitor events that are far away. Buoys will be placed in the sea to create a safe swimming area, 40 more light poles will be erected and 77 additional security cameras will be installed.

The short-wave communication network will be improved to make it easier for the police to interact with each other and for locals or tourists to report accidents. A GPS system for vehicles will also be considered.
