A Thai film called Lung Boonmee Raluek Chat (meaning ‘Uncle Boonmee who can recall his past lives’), directed by Mr. Apichatpong Weerasethakul recently won the coveted Palme d’Or at the prestigious 63rd Cannes Film Festival in France.

In his acceptance speech Mr. Apichatpong gave recognition to the ghosts and spirits in Thailand claiming it was they who enabled him to make such a successful story. This is the first time a Thai production has won the top award at this international event.
