Thailand’s exports are expected to grow more than the targeted at 14 per cent this year, boosted by the global economic recovery, higher demand for Thai products in the world market, and successful penetration into new markets, according to Department of Export Promotion (DEP) director-general Srirat Rasatapana.

Mrs Srirat said DEP invited the heads of Thailand's trade offices overseas to meet and discuss here the export situation in each country as Thailand’s exports had increased monthly on a continuing basis.

Previously, the Commerce Ministry projected the country’s exports would expand 14 per cent this year, but given the positive new factors, exports are likely to grow more than projected.

However, she said, it remained unable to state clearly how much export figures would rise.

"We have to wait for a result of the joint meeting with representatives of trade offices overseas to ensure clarity before making the export growth estimate again," she said.

Although the ongoing political standoff was escalating and likely to turn violent, Mrs Srirat said that most foreign investors who visited trade exhibitions said they were unworried about Thailand's political problems.

She said the department would organise a gift and furniture fair in 2010 during April 20-25 at Bitec Exhibition and Convention Center.

So far, more than 100 companies have confirmed participation in the fair where over 1,600 exhibition booths are established. It showed foreigners are not worried over the political situation in Thailand
