Hotel Business in Pattaya Set to Improve
Mr. Chatchawan Suppachayanon, Managing Director of Dusit Thani and also Chairman of the Thailand Hotel Association Eastern Seaboard said that hotel business is expected to improve by 5-10 percent this year compared to last year. He noted that the majority of the hotel guests are Thai and they will remain the target market for this year. He also said that Asia is also a target group should be considered as well.
Mr. Chatchawan continued to say, “Last year was not a very good year for Pattaya. With the political crisis in Thailand and worldwide economical downturn, Pattaya was greatly affected with the hotel reservation rate for last year plunging down below 50 percent. The marketing strategy for the hotels in the Thailand Hotel Association Eastern Seaboard will be to focus on Thai travelers and those in the Asian region. Pattaya is fortunate that it is situated not too far from major cities and has excellent transportation services. We also have many types of tourist destinations that can satisfy all age groups and different types of tourists.”
Mr. Chatchawan noted, “With new small hotels establishing all the time, 2010 is set to be a good year for Pattaya. This is because Thai people like staying in small affordable hotels. Hotel owners can be confdent and can expect better business conditions this year.”
Mr. Jamroon Vitsavachaipan, President of Pattaya Business and Tourism Association added, “I agree that Pattaya will see improvements this year. It can be seen that since December last year that the tourism rate is slowly growing and Pattaya’s economy is gradually improving. If it continues like this until the middle of the year and there is no crisis in the country, Pattaya will get even bigger and better.”
