Just Don’t Call It Politics
Did You Know How Times Have Changed?
After World War Two and up until the Late 1950s, my grandmother served in the Florida Legislature as a Representative from Lakeland Florida.
She was one of the frst females in the Floridian political world. When she was in her late 80s, I brought a friend of mine to meet her in Lakeland. I made the introductions, we had cookies, tea and coffee and discussed the state of world affairs, both then and while Granny was in public offce. After many a very stimulating round of discussions, I mentioned to my friend that Granny had been in politics. Granny drew herself up straight and rather starchily said: “Government, dear. I was in government.”
I am one of many who still believe Granny was right. It is much better for someone to be in Government than it is for them to be in politics.
