All over the world millions of men and women remove unwanted hair on a daily base.  Many regard this as a normal part of life, but for some, the psychological trauma of unwanted hair growth can be suffciently strong that they look for professional help.  In the past, the usual remedies for unwanted hair were plucking, shaving, waxing or chemical depilatories.  Some are painful, some are messy, and all are temporary.  Now there’s a more effective solution, the new Diode Laser. This state-of-theart technology, high powered diode laser hair removal offers patients a safe and very effective alternative to all other hair removal techniques.

Understanding laser treatment

A laser produces a beam of highly concentrated light.  The light emitted by the Diode Laser is absorbed by the pigment located in hair follicles.  The laser pulses for a fraction of a second, just long enough to vaporize the pigment, disabling several follicles at a time to eliminate or signifcantly impede the hair re-growth.

Number of sessions

The number of session depends on various parameters, including the area of the body treated, skin color, coarseness of hair, and gender. In addition, since hair grows in several phases, (anagen, telogen, catagen), and laser can only affect the currently actively growing follicles, (anagen), several sessions are needed to kill hair in all phases of growth.

In general, it is necessary to foresee between 3 - 8 treatment sessions. Coarse dark hair on light skin is easiest to treat. Finer hair and hair on darker skin is harder to treat and may require more treatments. Certain areas (notably men's and women's faces) may require considerably more treatments to achieve desired results.

Interval between sessions

Usually, treatments are spaced 3-12 weeks apart to start, although the spacing depends upon individual’s response to treatment. Instead of following an arbitrary schedule, you should wait until you have experienced shedding of the treated hairs, which should complete within 2-3.5 weeks, and see enough hair come in after the hair-free period to have another treatment. Treatment spacing also depends on area treated as hair cycles vary based on the body part.

What to expect during the laser hair removal procedure?

During the procedure, laser light will be delivered through a hand held piece attached to a laser console. Laser treatment itself may cause a slight tingling sensation. Most patients tolerate the procedure well. But because some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, topical anesthesia can be an option. The appearance of the treated area immediately after the laser session will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of treatment and skin type. Immediate after-effects, if any, are minor. They may include redness and swelling, which disappear in a short time. Most people return to normal activity right away.

Who is a good candidate for laser hair removal?

The absolute requirement is that one's hair must be darker than the surrounding skin. Dark hair absorbs more laser energy and is easier to treat. Coarse dark hair responds the best to laser treatment. Light, blonde or red hair is diffcult to treat. Additionally very darkly pigmented people absorb too much laser energy in their skin and are not candidates for most lasers. Tanned patients with light hair are not candidates. Tanned patients with dark hair cannot be treated with the usual hair removal lasers.

Scheduling your consultation at APEX Profound Beauty could be the most important step in changing your life forever.  Imagine the extra time you would save never having to shave, tweeze or wax again.
