Thai National Experiences Excellent Results for the PTT Pattaya Open
The WTA Tour PTT Pattaya Tennis Open 2010 was recently held at the Dusit Thani Pattaya in which 7.26 million baht worth of prize money were awarded. The event was held for seven days and our very own Tammy got to compete in the fnals on both singles and the doubles match. This is the second time in her tennis career where she got to compete in the fnals for both the singles and the doubles match. Tammy is only 32 years old and is already ranked 87th in the world’s best tennis player chart.
The two previous champions from last year’s PTT Pattaya Open were able to hold their winning spot this year in both the singles match and the doubles.

Vera Zvonareva from Russia the previous champion beat our very own Tamarine Tanasugarn which scored her frst place in the singles match. Tamarine or also known as ‘Tammy’ then teamed up with Marina Erakovic from New Zealand to score themselves frst place the doubles fnal in which they also won last year.
The big sponsors like PTT were proud of Tammys’ success and the success of the whole tournament and guarantee to hold an even bigger event next year in celebration for His Majesty the King 84th birthday.
The singles fnal was between Tammy and Vera Zvonareva from Russia who is 24 years old, ranked 14th in the world and was the winner last year. Vera beat Tammy in both sets with the score of 4-6 putting Tammy in second place and a prize money of 627,000 baht. The champion for the second consecutive year, Vera Zvonareva received 1.2 million baht prize money. Vera revealed after the game, “Every match that was played during the PTT Pattaya open has been very challenging and fun. The Thai and Russian spectators were very supportive and I am sure that they had a great time watching the game. I cannot wait to be back again next year.”
As for the doubles fnal match was played between Marina Erakovic, from New Zealand with our very own Tammy against Anna Chakvetadze and Ksenia Pervak both from Russia. The match started off with Anna and Ksenia, taking the frst three games, leading with the score of 0-3. Then Tammy and Marina managed to turn the game around and won after one hour and seven minutes with the score of 7-5 and 6-1 in the second set. Each winner received 170,000 baht as the prize money.
“I will play my best in the Malaysian open to have to chance to play in Wimbledon. I have been playing tennis for a very long time and I never stop enjoying it. Coming to play in this tournament gave me the opportunity to visit the Children Protection and Development Center as well. I got to donate some of the money I’ve won to the children and treated them all to lunch,” said Tammy after winning.
Mr. Prasert Boonsumphan, Managing Director of PTT said, “We will continue to support the PTT Pattaya open. The competition in 2011 will be even bigger and better in celebration for the King’s 84th birthday. We will invite all of the top ten women tennis players to compete in the tournament to make the game even more challenging and fun to watch. PTT Company will also continue to support Thai tennis players to give them the opportunity to compete in the Grand Slam Tournaments.”
Mr. Jeffery Row, Tournament Manager for the PTT Pattaya Open 2010 said, “This year’s tournament was a success. We are delighted to have PTT sponsoring us once again along with other generous supporters such as Chonburi Provincial Government, Pattaya City and Sports Authority of Thailand. The number of spectators also grew by 20-25 percent this year. Next year’s competition will be the 20th year since the competition was frst held and we guarantee that it will be an event to look forward too.
