Thailand Immigration Bureau Arrest Korean Fugitive
Mr. Lee Chan Huen was wanted on charges of murder, kidnapping for ransom, rape of a minor and theft in South Korea and the Republic of the Philippines.
On January 11 Police Lt. General Wut Liptapanlop, the Supreme Commander of the Thailand Immigration Bureau held a press conference to announce the arrest of Mr. Lee Chan Huen, age 42, holding a passport issued by the Republic of South Korea based. The arrest was based on warrants issued and transmitted to Thai police from the both the South Korean police and Interpol.
Mr. Lee was wanted on charges of murder, kidnapping for ransom, rape of a minor and theft in South Korea and the Republic of the Philippines. Mr. Kim had eluded police in both countries and fled to Thailand before warrants were delivered to Thai Immigration authorities.
Once Thailand Immigration Bureau was notified of the outstanding warrants issued to capture Mr. Kim all checkpoints, border crossings, regional immigration bureaus as well as Thailand Police were notified leading to his quick capture where he was hiding in Nakorn Pathom.
Mr. Kim was charged on the South Korean warrant issued in August, 2005 accusing him of stealing US $30,000. Mr. Kim was also charged with raping an under-aged Korean girl in June , 2005. He fled his home country and continued his crime spree in the Philippines.
Additional charges were filed by Thailand police against Mr. Kim based Interpol warrants for the crimes he is accused of committing while in the Philippines on March 5, 2007.
In the Philippines Mr. Kim and two accomplices are accused of kidnapping for ransom Mr. Cho Sang Lak, Mr. Kim Suk Huan and Mr. Ammersun Custer. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of US $11,000. The trio shot both Mr. Cho and Mr. Ammersun to death while Mr. Kim escaped and reported the crimes to local police.
Mr. Lee again eluded police and escaped capture by fleeing to Thailand where he was subsequently arrested.
