Golf From the “Travellers Rest”
You might be intrigued by the headline. Well here we go. Monday’s outing was to Green Valley. Quite why TRGG decided to go back is unsure after the treatment they received in late 2009. The comment from the organiser after Mondays visit was “Run by Totally Unprofessional Managers”
A booking was made for seven groups. With a tee off time of 11:00am allocated.
Upon arrival we were asked to start at the tenth tee. Not unknown.
So off we go and prepare for the days play only to be confronted by a number of four balls coming off the ninth and stating in no uncertain terms that they were expecting to play on. As a result many confrontations took place however our organiser stood his ground and made sure that all his four balls got away. The course marshal was next to useless and really did not want to take on the problem. But the end result was a six–hour round.
After completion the organiserconfronted the course supervisor and then the general manager. To no end it seems. As at no time was an apology forthcoming. The outcome was that all future bookings were promptly cancelled. This calculates at a loss of some 40 to 50 thousand baht per week loss of regular income for the course. Will they care I doubt it.
Unless all the golfing organisations in Pattaya see this for what it is and get on board and boycott the operation.
Late news–I was in communication late Saturday with another group and have been advised that they also had received similar treatment at this course and would never be returning. So maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Monday, January 11 Green Valley
Good turnout and two divisions. Division two was a win for Robert Cannon with his thirty–five. Second just one back was Alun Webber with thirty–four. Third was Roger Wilkinson at thirty–two.
Division one and Michael Prideaux was third at thirty-three. Second spot went to Jon Lay with thirty–six and the winner was Mike Sanders with his thirty–seven.
Three two’s Jon Dean, Brian Foster and George Robinson
Tuesday, January 12 Greenwood
A bit different to its similar named course.
Great course and good treatment. A very good attendance so two full divisions.
Division 2 was a battle for fourth to second all decided on count back.
Jerry McCarthy 31 back nine 12, Jack McNamara 31 back nine 15, and Joe Kowalczyk 31 back nine 17 for second spot. The winner was Mark Reuben with thirty–five.

Three Two’s Mike Sanders, Neil Wilkinson and Sean Hallahan.
Thursday, January 14 and back to our usual Thursday venue of Phoenix (Mountain and Lakes).
As usual these days a great turnout of players so yet again two very full divisions.
Division 2 went to Jerry McCarthy with thirty–four followed home by Pers Anders Karlson at thirty– one. Neil Allison took with thirty.
Division 1 was a third for Michael Prideaux with his thirty–four and second spot went to Llen Mathews with thirty–five and the winner was Mike Sanders at thirty–six.
Only one two from Pers Anders Karlson
Saturday, January 16 and off yet again to Khao Kheow
A very good turnout. So we had two divisions.
In Division two Robert Cannon was the third placed player with his thirty-four. Second went to Trevor Thorley after winning the count– back with his thirty–four. But this was Mike Rushant’s day with his win and thirty–five points.
But what can you say about the winner of Division one. Niall Cronin. A win on Tuesday playing off ten and then despite a handicap cut and now playing off eight he comes out firing and wins again this time with thirty–eight.
Second was Michael Prideaux with thirty–seven and third was Mike Sanders with thirty–five.
A record eight two’s. Niall Cronin (2) Mike Rushant, Billy Ostle, Mike Sanders, Jon Dean, Trevor Thorley and Jack Watkins
