Rising Stars Lisicki and Cirstea Join the PTT Pattaya Open
Two of the rising stars in women’s tennis, Sabine Lisicki of Germany and Sorana Cirstea of Romania have confirmed their entry to the US$220,000 PTT Pattaya Open, Sony Ericsson WTA Tour tennis tournament, which will be held at the Dusit Thani Pattaya from February 7-14.
Lisicki and Cirstea are known for both their good looks and their ability on court. They will be joining defending champion and world No.9 Vera Zvonareva in the main draw of the tournament.
Sabine Lisicki who turned 20 years old this year is the German No.1 and despite being plagued by injures for the latter part of the season finished the year ranked at No.22 in the world. She won her maiden Sony Ericsson WTA tour title at Charleston beating Venus Williams and Caroline Wozniacki on route to victory. She continued her good form at Wimbledon reaching the quarterfinals and then reached the semi-finals at Memphis and was runner-up in Luxembourg.
Teenager Sorana Cirstea is another young player who is destined for greater things. Ranked No.45 in the world, she showed glimpses of her capabilities at the French Open where she reached the quarterfinals beating both Jankovic and Wozniacki.
She followed this up with a semifinal finish at Los Angeles beating Radwanska and Wozniacki again, before being hampered by a foot injury for the remainder of the season.
Qualifying matches start on Sunday, February 7 and the main draw singles and doubles matches begin on Monday, February 8. Despite the strong field for the 2010 PTT Pattaya Open, the tournament organisers will maintain ticket prices at the same level as 2009:
Ticket prices are as follows:
• 200 baht for February 7 (qualifying)
• 300, 500 and 800 baht for February 8 – 11
• 300, 500, 800 and 1,000 baht for February 12 - 14
