PSC Golf from Tropical Bert's
Our venue for the last competition of the year was to be Khao Kheow, a controversial course, which some regular participants deliberately avoided because it is considered too difficult. Your reporter likes a challenge and finds all courses challenging, so really can’t tell the difference. It is not unlike the man who hit himself on the head with a hammer, because he said it felt so good when he stopped.
The weather was fine and even a little cloudy. The course was in average trim and we played off the yellow tees as usual. So there was no excuse for some good scores to fail to come in this day. Although busy, we didn’t have the bunching up of groups which led to a six hour round two months ago.
The prestigious “Alan Bolton Golfer of the Month” was up for grabs, with Mashi Kenata in the lead over John Binns. Only two golfers could knock Mashi off. But this day, Mashi wasn’t up to form and has been battling his new lifetime-low handicap of nine. So Mashi didn’t even finish on the leader board, but still won the Golfer of the Month, for the third month, which means that Mashi is the clear favourite for “Golfer of the Year 2010” as well. But that won’t be decided until July, 2010.
Among the mere mortals, our Captain had a fine day, winning the A flight, with another long-hitter, Joel Flor winning the B Flight. Happy New Year all.
