Strategic Group of Pattaya Continues Research for Pattaya Monorail Project
Mr. Sontaya Kunplome, Ex-Minister of Tourism and Sports along with representatives from the Tourism¨Strategic Development Consulting
Committee led the meeting after Pattaya City allowed 15 million baht for the project.
Dr. Witsanu Palayanun, President of the Strategic Group said, “Pattaya City has approved the Pattaya monorail project in hopes to develop the transportation system and improve the overall tourism in Pattaya. Pattaya City hired two private companies in October to research on the possibility of that happening. We have given these two companies until March to up come with a result. The four issues studied are the effects the monorail or the construction of the monorail has on the environment, the budget it will require, the most suitable route and the best structure for the monorail.”
Mr. Prapat Juogsayuan, Ex-Director of Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand said, “Pattaya is a desired destination by many because of the beautiful beach and¨other entertainment facilities we offer. So to build a monorail in Pattaya we have to really consider how it would balance to the surrounding environment and how each station will connect to the other. The positive side of having a monorail in Pattaya is that we will boost tourism in Pattaya and bring Pattaya up to an international standard.”
Pattaya City also invited representatives from private companies who are experienced in building monorail in France and Japan to put forward their ideas.
