New Year Celebrated in Pattaya
The Pattaya Countdown celebration was broadcast on Asian TV with over 600 million viewers watching. The countdown celebration along with seven other national events held in Pattaya throughout the year helped increase the number of tourists visiting Thailand.
Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome said, “We have had events along the Bali Hai Pier throughout the week to celebrate the New Year under the concept ‘Amazing Pattaya Amazing Countdown’. The week was full of entertaining activities and concerts that drew 500,000 people to Pattaya and generated about 400-500 million baht.”
This year’s hotel reservation rate was not as high as last year however at only 70 percent of capacity where the usual rate is 80-90 percent, however most of the hotels, especially the ones along Beach Road, were fully booked on December 31 and January 1.
Beach Road was packed with tourists as well as locals who enjoyed the amazing fireworks. There were booths with delicious food and other unique products for sale throughout the night.
Hotels and restaurants also held special countdown celebrations with buffet dinners and special entertainment.
All in all it was a successful celebration and we now can look forward to other events which will be held in Pattaya like the Tennis Pattaya Open, the LPGA Golf, the Pattaya Marathon, the Pattaya Music Festival and other festivals held throughout the year in Pattaya.
