Crime Crackdown Success
Chonburi police recently presented the successful results of December’s crackdown on criminal activities to the media.
Pattaya Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Kriengsak Suriyo, Chonburi Police Commissioner Major General Thanet Pinmuanggnarm and Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome along with a host of other officers and senior officials came together to announce the success of the recent crackdown on crime throughout Chonburi, which focused on Pattaya City.
As a result of police investigations, a huge amount of drugs and arms have been confiscated from the streets of Pattaya, including over 34,400 Yabba pills, 90 grams of Ya-Ice, 10 Ectasy pills, over 1.5 kgs of cocaine, 200 kgs of marijuana and other drugs. Weapons included a variety of shotguns and rifles along with 30 hand guns . Over 5,500 criminals were charged with offences.
The focus of the renewed crackdown was focused on drugs, mafia activity and serious crime.
Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome stated that the success of the operation will help portray a positive image for the city of Pattaya to the visiting foreign tourists and make the city safer. The law enforcement team over the high season will number over 10,000 and include Pattaya and Chonburi officers, police volunteers, tourist police and various medical teams from the hospitals in the area.
During the crackdown police arrested two former school teachers caught selling drugs to youths in the Sattahip Region, near Pattaya, after monitoring their residence and witnessing a steady flow of people going in an out of the premises. They apprehended the suspects following a sting operation.
Huay Yai police arrested the son of a sub-district headman at his office in possession of a substantial quantity of guns, ammunition and drugs. The man was arrested at house number 51/13 Moo 1, Kao Mai Kaew, Banglamung, also the office of the Kow Mai Kaew sub-district Headman and police discovered 2 rifles, a shotgun, a handgun and ammunition. Officers also found a quantity of Yah-Bah and Yah Ice in addition to various items of drug taking paraphernalia and packaging.
The man arrested was Mr. Siriwat Kiteepakul, son of the village Headman Mr. Siripaisal Kiteepakul and nephew of the sub-district Administration Organisation headman Mr. Jumnian Kiteepakul.
A combined police taskforce of 150 officers was set up to target drugs and illegal activities over the New Year festival. Chonburi Police Commissioner Police Major General Thanet Pinmuanggnarm and Superintendent of Pattaya Police Station Colonel Sarayut Sanguanphokhai along with other officials and an undercover team from the Organisation of the Narcotics Control Board gathered in Pattaya to deter and arrest anyone involved with illegal drugs, crime or violence during New Year celebrations.
Police Major General Pinmuanggnarm instructed the joint task force to specifically inspect five key venues in the Pattaya area, the Differ Nightclub, Star Dice Discotheque and Fashion Club in North Pattaya as well as Mixx Discotheque and Lucifer Nightclub in Walking Street.
