21.12.2009 19:30

Rear Admiral Surapong Aisayanont, U-Tapao Assistant Director, and his crews met with Pattaya City Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome on September 3 at the Pattaya City Hall, to discuss U-Tapao scenery development as well as the upgrading of U-Tapao as a commercial airport.

The Royal Thai Navy has a budget of 995 million baht for the expansion that includes building a new passenger terminal, improving taxiways, fuel depots, firefighting systems, X-ray machines, cargo units and other facilities.

Rear Admiral Surapong Aisayanont said concerning the scenery development that the inside terminal’s constructional plan has already been designed by using the Pitsanulok International Airport as the construction model.

U-Tapao Pattaya International Airport will be able to support at least 1,500 passengers per hour. Currently it is only able to support 400 passengers hourly. At the meeting, Pattaya City was asked to support the budget for changing the Airport’s signs and the budget for developing the land transportation system.

“Land transportation system links with U-Tapao Pattaya International Airport, should be by train, which is the most suitable transportation for this airport. This is because it is situated close to the train-rails and the trains are easy to catch. However the Pattaya train system still needs to be developed,” the Rear Admiral said.
