Voice attraction ... George Clooney’s deep voice attracts fertile women, whereas the higher

IT is good news for George Clooney and Russell Crowe, but not so much for David Beckham and Kyle Sandilands

A study shows women prefer deeper voices, which expert’s claims indicate dominance and good genes.

Women at their most fertile are attracted by deeper voiced partners, as they are deemed better hunters who offer more protection.

They are only drawn to high-pitched voices during times of decreased fertility, such as when they are breastfeeding.

Men on the other hand find high-pitched voices in women alluring as this suggests they are more subordinate, feminine, healthier and younger.

Anthropologist Dr Coren Apicella, of Harvard University, Massachusetts and psychologist Dr David Feinberg, of McMaster University, Ontario, studied 88 members of the Hadza tribe of Tanzania, one of the last true hunter-gatherer cultures.

Their findings are published in the Royal Society journal Proceedings of the Royal Society B, the Daily Mail newspaper in the UK reports.

“Voice pitch may be an indicator of underlying mate quality in humans. Vocal attractiveness is correlated with body and facial attractiveness,” the findings state.

“Voice pitch in men, due to its association with testosterone, may provide a signal of immuno competence and genetic quality and dominance.

“It is not surprising that women generally prefer men with more masculine or lower pitched voices.”
