Staff Reporter 06.12.2009 19:30

The Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr Pruttichai Damrongrat, announced that Thailand's Revenue Department is to overhaul the entire liquor excise tax structure by the year’s end to make it more in line with international standards.

The Asia Tax Forum Workshop on Alcohol Excise Taxation was held in Bangkok to discuss the development of the current tax system. Various collection methods were investigated to find the most suitable system to collect excise taxation.

Thai agencies and experts from around the world exchanged ideas concerning the tax structure. One major issue raised was the complicated liquor tax structure which needs to be simplified for businesses to comply and to raise Thailand’s excise tax system to international standards.
