THE PALACE
Lebanese cuisine enjoys a worldwide reputation for its richness and variety and now it can be tasted at an exciting new eatery which has opened on the 4th floor of Central Festival Pattaya. It is a chic, modern, sea view restaurant serving authentic cuisine from this legendary garden of the Middle East. The décor is sleek contemporary offering air-conditioned comfort or al fresco terrace dining with the stunning backdrop of the bay of Pattaya. Just a word before we begin; if you like an alcoholic beverage with your victuals then pop into the first rate supermarket on the lower ground floor before visiting The Palace. The restaurant does not serve alcohol but has absolutely no objections to guests bringing their own (no corkage of any kind).
The Palace is owned by Nader Al Hadi who effortlessly performs the front of house role while his brother, the Chef, performs his culinary accomplishments in the kitchen. Both are professional restaurateurs so who better to bring their native gastronomy to Pattaya than these two Lebanese brothers. This is a unique restaurant offering authentic cuisine rooted in geography and history with not a copy cat/chain/franchise in sight.
A fantastic array (around thirty) of hot and cold starters makes for exciting reading. From various renditions of delicious houmous, B.100 (chickpea/sesame seed/garlic paste), through shawarma (shredded lamb), tabboleh, B.120 (Middle Eastern cracked wheat mixed salad) to chicken wings, fried kibbeh (minced meat combined with with pine seeds and cracked wheat) to a myriad of colourful items evoking the mysteries of Arabic cuisine. For ease of ordering we opted for the mixed selection of cold starters with extra stuffed grape (vine) leaves and Arabic bread. The medley presented was rich and vibrant with crunchy vegetables and creamy dips studded with olives and pine nuts scented´with heady olive oil and herbs. Garlicky houmous, brilliant babaganouge (a giddy paste of grilled eggplant, tahini, lemon, garlic, parsley, pomegranate syrup and olive oil), muhmara (fried soft bread, spicy tomato paste and onion), fettoush (mixed salad) and tabboleh completed this zesty assortment of appetisers.
The Arabic bread is a must; these big, freshly baked billowy puffs of flat bread are just perfect for tearing and dipping into the rich, smooth pastes and as a natural accompaniment to the strong flavours of the grills. It was on to the meats that we moved now. Again, we settled on a mixed plate for an assortment of tastes. Before we could say “salam”, The Palace mixed grill (B.320) was served. The platter contained lamb chops, boneless lamb, charcoal grilled cubes of chicken, chicken wings, French fries, bread and salad and with an further order of falafel (vegetarian patties of chickpeas) our table was over-flowing. Aside from minced meats and kebabs, chicken is a speciality and is served as escalope Cordon Bleu, Mexican style, Milanaise, Provencale or with pepper, mushrooms or meuniere (from B.240).
The Palace offers a true Middle Eastern experience including, should you wish, an invigorating inhalation of mint or apple tobacco in one of the huge hookah pipes. Creative mocktails such as The Palace special of cream, fruit salad, mango juice, strawberry juice, avocado juice, ice cream, nuts and honey would provide a decadent dessert.
The Palace serves authentic Lebanese and Middle Eastern cuisine using the freshest of ingredients and traditional techniques to prepare the dishes. They also deliver in the Pattaya area. We recommend you eat with at least three other people to take advantage of the mezze concept of ordering lots of different dishes for sharing. Come here to sample time-honoured recipes from the eastern shores of the Mediterranean in an agreeable contemporary ambiance with the added bonus of overlooking the bay of Pattaya.
