Sustainable Tourism Administration Prepares Development Plan
Mayor of Pattaya Itthiphol Kunplome as he announces new development plans for Pattaya and the sorroundings area.
The Research and Consultancy Institute of Thammasart University along with the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration recently invited representatives from the government as well as private companies, tourism business owners, and Pattaya locals to come together and share their ideas about how to boost tourism in Pattaya and the surrounding areas.
Ideas were shared and discussed and will be presented to the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration and then to the ministry for final approval.
Ms. Sumitra Sarasuchart, Communication officer for the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration said, “Pattaya and the surrounding area has been announced as a place where tourism is to be developed. The area will cover 928.48 square kilometers and include Pattaya, the beaches, Koh Larn, Koh Pai, Phong, Jomtien, Banglamung, Takientia, Hui Yai, Nongprue, Kao Mai Kaew and Nong Pla Lai. We feel that the best way to develop each area is to have a representative from each sector come together and share their ideas. Once we have collected the appropriate ideas we will present them and get approval from the ministry.”
Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome added, “Pattaya is a tourist destination that has various entertainment facilities in the city and in surrounding areas. Its popularity is growing each day. To have representatives from different sectors share their thoughts about how Pattaya should be developed is very beneficial to our future. All in all, any development plans will not only improve Pattaya but it must also be environmentally friendly."
It is expected the plan will be completed and ready to be presented to the ministry in January 2010.
