Talented singers from ages 12-20 years old recently sang their hearts out at the One Tambon One Product (OTOP) Singing Contest 2009 held at Central Plaza, Chonburi.

The purpose of the OTOP Singing Contest is to encourage young Thai singers to listen to and enjoy traditional country music that has been the Thailands signature music for centuries. There were 23 teams who auditioned with 12 teams being chosen to go through to the second round which will be held on December 11-12 and the final round will be held on December 13.

Governor of Chonburi Saenee Kitjakasaem said, “The reason that we want Thai teenagers to listen and love country music is because these kinds of music really represent our traditional way of living that is slowly being lost. With competitions like this, children will want to listen to this kind of music, learn the songs, and compete for prizes. In the end no matter if they win or not, they will have had fun anyway.”

The 12 teams that made it to the next round are ‘C.N Star’ from Kunlakul School, ‘Golden Tiger’ from the Panuspittauakorn School, ‘Peacock’ from Chonradchakornumrong School, the Sripratum University team, ‘Pornpor- pha-pi-ka-net’ from Pattaya City School 3, ‘Tep-ti-da-pa-ya-rae’ from Buathongwongjunwittaya School, ‘Ruamphung’ also from the Buathongwongjunwittaya School, ‘Mouth Show’ from the Muang School, ‘Kaew Jaow Jorm’ from the Sutha School, ‘Barn-bung-ruam-jai-terd-thai-ongra-chan’ team from Barn Tarn Dum School, ‘Burapha Diamon’ from Satit Burupha School, and ‘J.S’ team from Burapha University.

Let’s wait and see who will make it to second round and finally become the winner of the OTOP Singing Contest which will be held on the lawn in front of the Chonburi City Hall from December 11-13.

OTOP is the government program that assists and encourages a Tambon or village to work together to specialize in one product.
