Disabled Thais Granted Monthly Support

Starting in April 2010, 800,000 people registered as disabled can qualify for a monthly allowance provided by the government of 500 baht.



Due to the great success of the Father Ray Foundation in rehabilitating Thais nationwide who were born with birth defects or have suffered loss of limb due to accidents there are thousands of Thais living independently
in Pattaya and the region.

Public Health Minister Witthaya Kaewparadai announced that a national register will be open from December 3 to February 8 next year to check records of more than 1,200,000 disabled across the country.Public health officials will visit villages across the country to seek out disabled people and examime house registration records from the Interior Ministry.

It has been estimated that over 800,000 people are expected to qualify for the benefit. People shortlisted for the basic qualification will be examined in government hospitals and clinics before they are certified for the allowance payment. Disabled people in state or private shelter homes with a government subsidy and prison inmates can not qualify for the benefit.

The allowance will be funded by provincial authorities and local administrative bodies in the provinces and the district offices in Bangkok.
