Chonburi Prepares to Honour HM with 30-Meter Shrine

Chonburi Mayor Sanee Jittakasaem chaired a meeting to plan the construction of a 30-meter city pillar shrine in Chonburi to honor His Majesty the King’s birthday celebrated this December.



Mr. Korkiat Thongyuk has designed the city pillar shrine which will be 30 meters high and consist of four additional buildings. It is expected to cost about 175 Million Baht and will be made from wood transported from Suratanee. There will also be a nine Buddhist monk statues of which seven will represent each day of the week.

One million baht was generously donated by Ex Mayor of Chonburi Mr. Chaijit Rattakajorn to build this amazing mega structure.

The meeting also looked at ways of removing electricity poles, phone lines and other utilities that will be required to be removed before construction can start.

“Further meetings will be held to report on the progression of the Chonburi city pillar shrine and we welcome input from other parties.” Chonburi Mayor Sanee said.
