Pattaya Long Boat Races Held on Maprachan Lake
The ‘Theptummarat’ boat team from Phatumthanee defeated the ‘Akkaranawa’ boat team from Samutsakorn to become the winner of the 2009 Long Boat main race at Maprachan Lake and in doing so won a trophy from H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and 100,000 baht in prize money.
The ‘Akkaranawa’ boat from Samutsakorn recieved a trophy and 40,000 baht for coming second,third place went to the ‘Pornpayatark’ boat team from Chainart who received a trophy and prize money of 20,000 baht and fourth place went to ‘Jaomaepradoothong’ from our own Chonburi province who recieved a trophy and 10,000 baht.
There were local competitors as well as racers from neighboring countries such as Burma, Vietnam, Laos, Indonesia, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Singapore.
The event also had also had four other categories; the long boat competition of no more than 30 pedals in which the winner received a trophy and a prize money of 50,000 baht, and was won by the "Junjao" boat team,a large long boat competition where the winning team received a trophy and prize money of 50,000 baht, a small long boat competition and the international long boat race where winners received a trophy and 50,000 baht prize money as well.
Mr. Raewat Phonlookin Deputy Chief of the Chonburi Provincial Administration Organization presented the teams with their trophies and prize money.
Mr. Mai Chaiyanit, Mayor of Nongprue said, “This event was another successful event just like every other year. This event, unlike any other year was a little more exciting because of the buffalo racing and the long drum contest that drew the attention of both Thai and foreigners."
