Charity from the Heart
Optimists Club President Drew Noyes, Secretary Wanrapa Boonsu and Founding Board Member Keith Avery makes a donation to Ms. Plewthip to feed slum children.
Khun Plewthip Mabprachan, of Pattaya Slum Ministries accepted with appreciation, a 10,000 baht donation from President Drew Noyes and Keith Avery, representing the Optimist International Club of Thailand.
President Drew said; "What an honor to help such a worthy organization; an organization that puts peoples needs above their own. In addition, they are Christian people that are constantly going that extra mile to put a smile on some child's face. I applaud them and furthermore, it is a privilege to help them in their quest to feed and clothe the unfortunate souls of Pattaya."
Khun Plewthip made the statement that "There are over two thousand people living in 14-slum areas of Pattaya, which exist on very little. We work with seven of them, pro-viding rice, noodles water, vitamins, shampoo for head lice, and formula for infants as well as other items, and we also provide blood pressure checks. In addition to providing some of their basic needs; we have kids clubs where we read Bible stories and play games along with serving snacks. We strongly feel that God has a plan for their lives.
We also have a Christian Day Care Center, 80% of the children that attend our classes come from broken homes. Abuse occurs from time to time and when this is brought to our attention, we contact World Vision. "The lady that started this wonderful and caring ministry, Lee Ann Sidebottom said; "Pattaya Slum Ministry was a vision I had while working with the poor and destitute in Bangkok. It didn't take long before I found myself in Pattaya working amongst the same element of lost souls that I had previously worked with in Bangkok. We are a ministry committed to bringing the love of Christ to the poorest of the poor here in the Pattaya slums.
We provide short-term relief through the distribution of basic items. Our goal is to reach out to the children and adults, bringing healing and hope through sharing the love of Christ and meeting their tangible needs.
We also believe that real transformation occurs when people experience Our Heavenly Father in their lives, along with encouraging the children to reach their God-given potential and to help them know that they are valued and loved.
"Ms. Sidebotton mentioned that one of her favorite Bible verses is taken from James 2:5 NWT, and it says; "Listen my beloved brothers, God chose the ones who are poor, respecting the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom, which he promises to those that love him, did he not?"
Another great scripture is taken from Luke 18:16 (NWT) "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these."
