Sawang Boriboon Foundation summer snake alert
These poisonous creatures can seriously injure people, and in some cases cause fatalities.
Mr. Chetsarit Daoduangsook and Mr. Manoon Chaitrong, experts in snake behavior at the Sawang Boriboon said that reports have increased dramatically regarding snakes invading people houses.
He said that the reason more snakes are getting into people homes at this time is two fold.
One is the current hot weather which directly affects snakes who seek cooler places to hide and reduce their body temperature. Another reason is due to snake’s habitat being significantly reduced by human development thus reducing their ability to find food sources so they migrate closer to the city and surrounding areas in the search for sustenance such as mice rats and even cats.
Mr. Daoduangsook told our reporter that the Sawang Boriboon has been receiving requests for snake removal previously at the rate of between 1-2 times a days, but currently they are being requested to remove snakes from houses 4-5 times a day.
The snake types are of both poisonous and non-poisonous, such as King Cobras and the more benign Pythons.
He recommended that the people should firstly take a picture of snake when they first encounter one so that snake retrievers know what they’re up against.
A simple tip to identify poisonous and non-poisonous snakes is by looking at its skin.
Poisonous snakes are mostly black or dark skinned and have aggressive behavior towards humans when agitated.
Non-poisonous varieties usually have striped or lightly marked skins and usually fee when disturbed.
Mr. Daoduangsook said it is recommended that residents keep an eye on the reptile from a safe distance after calling the Sawang Boriboon and that it was not necessary to attempt to harm or try to kill them. The Sawang Boriboon snake retrieval number is 038 222 474. Every-day 24 hours a day, you can call and the rescuers will be on the scene within approximately 20 minutes.
The retrieved snakes are taken to the Khao Mai Kaew forest where they are released back into the wild
