As a result of these figures,
Dr. Kris Chatamra M.B.B.S. (London); L.R.C.P. (London); M.R.C.S. (England), F.R.C.S. (Eng-land) , M.D. (London), a consultant surgeon and oncologist at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, is the founder and instigator of the centre.

The center’s goal was to provide a state-of-the-art service for women with breast cancer that would ensure a fast, efficient and cohesive diagnostic and treatment service.
Dr. Chatamra said, “My wife Khunying Finola and I built it. We raised money to build this facility; and we also got support from the Red Cross and the

Local people were happy to be educated and received free gifts about Breast Cancer.
“The roof was leaking, the whole place was a mess so we rebuilt it, and raised over 500 million baht from private sector and all the renovation that you see here including wall paper, lights, marble floor and all other materials are donations. This building has 10 floors. It has been designed for women at all levels of breast cancer. My wife and the team go to poverty stricken areas and teach the people about cancer.”
“We normally select people usually over age 40 and bring them into the center and give them treatment such as ultrasound, PAP smears and breast examinations. We treat all our patients with compassion and care. There is no charge to the woman who comes here and we give them the full program like we would normally for patients able to pay.
At the slums, we go and educate them about breast cancer for a day.” “One week later we go back with the Red Cross bus and bring patients and their relatives if they have any, so that day they don’t have to work. We look after them, give them free meals and then take them home. There is a further information program through the day and even entertain them with jugglers and other entertainment.”
“We have 79 patients and al-though it’s not a giant number the important thing is that here is a template that we can offer to people. Other than treating patients we want to raise the level of treatment to the highest level. Right now our equipment is state-of-the art in some cases and at an international level."

He added, “Some of our equipment is the first of its type in the world. The reason for all this is we want to set the standards high and we hope that other hospitals, especially private hospitals will consider this as an example. This way, our level of care can be raised right across the board and I think this is the best way to raise the standard other than try and get regulations in place, but better by demonstrating with action and example what we can do.”
Dr. Chatamra said, “When I came back to
